I'm looking into looping gear at the moment, and I'm finding it hard to get started with hardware because of the apparently two different "worlds" as regards synchronisation (between master and slave devices)
On the one hand there's Digitech's proprietary 'Jamsync' technology, which actually seems very attractive because it allows synchronisation on loop start and end. I.e. 'stop' on a slave means 'stop at the end of my loop' and 'record' on a slave means 'record at the start of the master loop'.
OTOH, there's MIDI sync, for which the slave device takes 'record' to mean 'record from beginning of next master measure' or if you're unlucky with MIDI implementation 'record from next master beat'
Seems like a no-brainer for Digitech's Jamsync, except (1) It's a proprietary protocol and non-documented, (though it has been hacked to a degree, resulting in one product that allows limited crossover) and (2) the team that developed it has just been shut down leaving doubts over its future. (May well leave me stranded if in 2 years time I want to expand my setup).
So the Question: Is it possible, using MIDI, to synchronise slave devices to the master loop (rather than measure). Does this exist in some hardware device ?
(Nothing in what I have read so far indicates this is possible, for the devices I've researched. All I see so far is lots of evidence/demonstrations to the contrary).
