Hello, somehow the fretted notes on the E string of my bass have notably less sustain compared to an open E. I can imagine that being normal within reason with the string being shorter when fretted but it's quite a difference even on the first couple frets.

Obviously it sounds like a setup issue but it's noticeable even with light picking and imho reasonable action and before I take it to a pro/luthier I wanted to ask for further advice on here.
The bass is a Maruszczyk Jake 4a with a zero fret and I'm using 50-105 strings on Eb tuning. Right now relief is at roughly 0.4mm/0.16" and the action on the E is at 2.5mm going to ~2mm on the G. Switching from Elixir Strings to uncoated Daddarios yielded some improvement but still far from the open string and so did increasing the action to over 3.5mm but this was almost unplayable to me. I can only imagine that this is caused by the string hitting other frets but yet I hear no buzz when picking lightly. I'd be greatful for any hints or things to try and I can also record some soundsamples if needed.
