First maybe I should make it clear the reason I post in this forum, is that I intend to use the active PA speaker pretty much as a bass amp hooked up with some preamp pedals.

So I am seriously pondering on buying a Mackie Thump 15 active PA speaker (15" woofer 1,4" tweeter, Freq range: 32Hz - 23KHz, 400W woofer/100W tweeter RMS (peak power 1000W) and equipped with 3 band EQ +/- 6 Db Bass at 80Hz, Sweepable Mids and 12Khz Treble, crossover freq 3Khz), in the first instance to hook up some of my pedals to it (a system of a couple of preamp pedals, a Boss LS-2 and a 12 band graphic EQ), making up for kind of a pseudo bi-amping rig) for a practice and emergency rig, maybe if it works out well to even replace my current rig.

I was wondering though what peoples opinions are on these PA speakers and if anyone know of better alternatives at about the same price tag?

If you are talking about using this for your bass rig you will not be happy with this speaker. It is not designed to reproduce any real low bass. For an emergency rig you would be better off with a small Combo 100 watt with a DI out . These Mackie Thump speakers are really not good for anything but vocals unless you pair them with a Sub.
