I'm wondering if I can make my upright sound more like a fretless. Any suggestions.
No disrespect intended, but why? 99.9% of the upright players are trying to avoid that very thing.
However, if that's what you seek, I would 1) lower the action, 2) use spirocore weichs, and 3)most importantly - install a magnetic pickup.
But if it were me, I would just buy a fretless electric. Good luck!
I posted the exact same three things you did . . . Until I saw what forum this is in.

Just play too loud, out of tune, and always gliss into and out of all notes...QED.
Thanks for the info, but take a look at the forum name. That's an easy one, all you need to do is get a Magnetic Upright Bass Pickup & keep in mind that Magnetic Pickups work w/ Steel Core Strings (e.g. D'addario Helicore Orchestral Strings).
I admit it. I've been quite recalcitrant and irresponsible in my TB viewing. But, on the other hand, I've been pretty busy too.Yes this thread was successful unlike other threads we've seen where the same approximate time had elapsed (but the OP had never logged into see the recent response) such as:
- Should I get this bass I just saw?
- Help me find a luthier!
- I'm thinking of taking up the bass, how do I get started?
- Should I major in music?
- I'm thinking of quitting the bass, talk me out of it!
