I am currently auditioning a rather nice Brazilian German bow. It’s made by Manoel Francisco. It is made of high quality pernambuco and is silver mounted. The frog is in the style of a Pfretzschner. It weighs in at 135g on the kitchen scale, well balanced, and has no winding but does have a lizard skin wrap. I haven’t found much info on but it draws a decent and big sound. This would be quite an upgrade to my current bow which is a Heliomar Cirilo. A good bow but coming to the point where it is hindering my progression. I have played Mahler 2, Shosty 5, Concerto for Orchestra, Beethoven 3,5,7,9, and plenty of Haydn and Mozart on this bow and it has worked but never as clean as this current bow.

Anyhow, I’m asking to see if anyone has familiarity with it because I want to be sure the price is right. My googling has shown that the guy makes all of the bow, no workshop, and was a former quality inspector for Water Violet bows. Any info beyond that would be great. His violin bows can be found online but I haven’t found much in terms of bass. I am considering picking bows up from this guy for my cello, viola, and violin as well.

Thanks!!

Francisco, Creone da Silva, Guasti & Bottoni etc are some of the best of the Brazilian bow makers. They work sustainably in a cooperative that reforests pernumbucco, etc. Their best bows can legitimately be in the $2-3K range. For reference Upton, JR Judd, A440 etc sell them.

Full disclosure: I have a Creone bow for sale in the ads. Terrific bow for the price, but I use the Arcus bows almost exclusively now because of hand and wrist issues.
