For what it is worth for my bass brothers....I play in a Godsmack tribute act. Have really enjoyed my Markbass tube 800 (I have two) through one or two 4x10 cabs (I have two of those, too). I play cheaper, Ibanez basses with a Boss ME50B dbx compressor model in front. KILLER tone. Only compliments, and my rig/gear crushes everything else I have heard and is 100 lbs lighter than anything that comes close. I am a huge fan of Markbass. Until my head caught on fire. Literally had to call fire department. Fortunately it was practice and not a gig. That head saw road gig after gig (with gentle packing and care, no abuse) for 5 years. My other, newer, tube 800 head still works fine, same killer tone, but I do find the crackling volume pots disconcerting. Came from factory like that; kinda "loose". Bought a Quilter bassblock for new back up amp. It sounds good; low, clean, but more like 600 watts than the 800 the mark pushes. Really, really small and light, simple, and it seems indestructible, And I want to keep it, but the Mark tone and power kills it. I do kind of like the transparency of the Quilter, though. The Mark def colors your sound, comparatively, more high end "sparkle". I can get close to the tone with the Quilter if I turn up my highs at the bass. Disclosure: My super loud drummer makes it tough to use anything smaller than 500 watts to 4x10. I have also owned two of the 2x10 combo amps, and they are great amps IMO, if you only need something for "light" use.
Anyway, hard to trust the Mark now, back up amp is a MUST. I am not getting any easy, straight answers with regard to service and repair, and likely the repair and shipping will be $200 or more. I did have a friend who repairs look at it, and it is the main board that was compromised in the burn. AND, the Mark is not a cheap amp. So, unfortunately, I think I am done with purchasing Markbass. Mesa Subway would be next choice; I know I can mail it to Cali if I ever needed to. Possibly two Quilter bass blocks in my future, or I just may get a crown xls2502 and put my helix in front of that, through my 4x10 cabs.
Just saying...Tom

Quiter went back to GC. Awesome return policy. I am looking for the holy grail with my helix LT. The quilter sounded better than the Mark Tube 800 using the xlr in on the back, skipping the EQ/ pre section. Mark has similar, but it just didn't sound great; Like they were not complimentary. I tried the QSC K12.2 as well, but just couldn't move the air. So I have sort of given up the portability. (If you go to a gig without an amp, you are hoping the in house sound gives you awesome monitors, louder than your drummer. I find that to be rare.) The Crown XLS 2502 is next up. About same wattage as the mark bass tube 800. 775 watts at 4 ohms, 450 at 8 ohms, I think. On order. Will run Helix to crown to mark cabs. Wish me luck.

Hey brother,
I live in Albion and have seen you guys play.
After 35+ years playing all around New York myself (and owning a Quilter B 800) I have a few ideas for you.
Firstly, I run my Quilter with an Ampeg SCR-DI in front of it to taylor my sound and it's ALWAYS with me even when I use any of my other 4 rigs. (Pictures below). I always run the Quilter with the gain pegged as it gives a compressed sound, almost tube like. (Wish I got to you before you returned it)
Secondly, my favorite rigs are rack mount Ampeg preamps, 1 SVP-CL and 1 SVP-PRO, the SVP-PRO rig is my favorite, I run that with an Alesis NanoCompressor and my wireless. The power amp is a QSC 3002 and pushes 3000 watts into 4 ohms bridged. Not that I'd ever need it but it never runs hard and always runs cool and reliable.
The SVP-CL has a cleaner Ampeg sound and I run that with an old school Peavey DPC1400X 1400 watts into 4 ohms, 1 rack space.
My cabinets consist of and ampeg 8x10 classic, a modified 1975 Peavey 6x10 (that'll handle 1800 watts now and has a better sound than my Ampeg), and a Carvin 4x10.
Here's a few pictures, oh yeah, and one of the bands I play with out here has a very hard hitting drummer, I've never had an issue with volume, lol. I've run the 6x10 at outdoor shows and have never had volume issues. Both racks are relatively light and you can even purchase power amps that are much lighter now and are highly reliable. (QSC, Peavey IPR, Crest prolit).
