Markbass MB58R series or the good old Traveler 102P

So I see that the new MB58R cab series are getting more and more attention. Especially the supposedly best 102 Pure Box and a little bit worse Energy. I need something lightweight and these cabs are around 10 kg. But the issue is that both are not quite available - Pure Box is 3-4 weeks of waiting (or pay much more :p ) and Energy is 2-5 days. But the number one in cabs on Thomann is still Traveler 102P and it is not much heavier (12.5 kg instead of 10-something?), but it is smaller in volume.

I bought a new Markbass Little Mark Tube recently and I am wondering if it is really worth it to wait for the 58R series or to just go with the flow and get a quite known cab, which is the Traveler 102P.

Thanks for your advice!

I haven't heard the MB58R cabs yet but my 102P cabs are light enough and they're made of wood. That matters to me.

I have very recent experience with both.

Was just on tour in Europe with a Traveler 102p, and while I was away, the MB58R cab I ordered had *finally* arrived. So came home yesterday with a 102 Energy cab, the 4ohm model. Holy crap is it ever light! Makes my Traveler 121, and even my NY121 feel like anvils. And I cannot hear a tonal difference between the Traveler 102 and this new series at all.

Having a cab built from wood means nothing to me, so I am curious to see how the new one performs out in the wild. Don't have any gigs on the imminent horizon to test it with, unfortunately, so that'll have to wait!

I've ordered regular 102p and Tube 800 and it sounds great. Unfortunately 58r was not available for too long (the same with regular Tube amp but a B-stock appeard) and I could not wait. But i would really want to get my hands on 58r at some point especially bc how light 102p is and 58 is even lighter according to specs. But acutally i might go with one of the 1x15 as i feel i have less bottom after switching from 1x15 Ampeg Portaflex and i see that a 102 + 151 is a common set (maybe 12 would be enough?).

Thx for the replies!

Is the tweeter level adjustable on the 58R cabs please?

Yes it is, though not quite as flexible as the "wheel" ones we've gotten used to on the Traveler/NY models. You have four options: off, +6db, +9db, and +15db. I mostly keep it off on my older ones, though I would occasionally add a *touch* if it was a really big stage, and I was losing a bit of definition/attack. +6db may be more tweeter/horn than I'd like if it's needed, but I'll have it off at least 98% of the time, so it's not likely to be a major concern

I believe its more -6,-9,-15 for the tweeter buttons. I prefer the round dial tweeter control on the sides of my two Blackline NY151s.

I've never owned any previous MB cabs to compare the MB58R cabs to. I just know that they are crazy lightweight and sound pretty full and round; to me.
And not sure of their long term durability but if there's no wood in these...I dont really care.
They sound nice and full and the weight is the biggest plus to me.
First bought a 102P-8, then the Energy 102-8 a week later. Should've just bought two Energy cabs. But that's just how it worked out.
The MB Vintage 500w head I bought last week, is the icing on this flavorful cake.
