I bought a MESA BOOGIE 400 (no Plus) today, I want to change the tubes.
It 'true that you can use either 6x6L6 and 6x6550 - 6xKT88?
I'm looking for somewhere that sells a full retube set for a Mesa/Boogie Bass 400.

You can use el34 too but you won't get anymore power running 6550's or KT88's or even cut some holes in the lid and fit KT120's or KT150's at wich point it will sound just as good as it did on 6l6 for a few mins till the mains transformer catches fire.
Don't over valve amps unless you are absolutely sure you can supply the heater current and bias modifications needed.
PS What's wrong with the tubes in it?.:)

I believe the OP is saying that the tubes are microphonic and that shock and vibration cause noise.

I have read in this forum that replacing 6L6’s with 6550’s will offer more power but have no idea if this is actually true, or if other mods are needed.
As I recall, the non-plus model is not as powerful as the plus model.
