Let me start by saying I love this amp. It is the second one I’ve owned having regrettably sold my first one about 10 years ago. It was flawless and never let me down. I trusted it completely and played hundreds of shows with it. With that in mind I bought a used one from a certain major guitar store who shall not be named. It arrived Thursday and I quickly put it in my rack case, plugged in to my Ampeg 212 AV and started playing my EBMM Stingray 5 through it. Two hours later and I was in love all over again. Well, last night I was playing a show and had it hooked into my Ampeg 810. I was playing my SBMM Ray 34. We are a punk/hardcore band so we rarely play anything more than a 45 minute set. With about two songs left there was a dramatic drop in volume. There was still sound coming out of my cabinet and it wasn’t distorted but it was very quiet. It didn’t feel like it was overheating. I brought it home and plugged it back into my Ampeg 212AV and played it (at a lower volume) for about 2 more hours with no issues. I know there’s lots of things it could be, but does anyone know of any common issues with these that would cause what I’m experiencing? Just trying to get an idea of what I may be in for since I just spent my equipment budget amount for the next several months. Thanks in advance!

Not sure if this is related, but I noticed that any time I touch the bass control knob it makes a slight buzzing sound through the cabinet.

Thanks for your reply! It does have an effects loop bypass switch. Currently in the “bypass” position.
Ok, the earliest ones didn't have the loop bypass switch.

I'm not as familiar with the Big Block as with the other models, but the customer service guys are.

Hey! Same issue here. I just got one. Totally like it. Played it couple of times for a couple of hours in my rehearsal room with no problems. Did a couple of smaller gigs with a 8 ohm 4x10 cab. But on my first 'bigger gig' with 8x10 4 ohms: volume drop after like half an hour. It came back, but after a couple of minutes: same thing. Had to do the 2nd set with my spareamp. So what's this with the effect loop? I don't use it and I do have the bypass switch and do have it switched off.

Thanks man, I'll do it today. I hope the Dutch Mesa repair centre (West Amp Geluid) knows about this. I'll refer to you! Earlier I was trying to find an alternative pre-out (so not the balanced one) and did try the effects send and inmediately got a immense smell like something really got hot and switched off the amp right away. So there's indeed something going on with the effects loop like i'm reading in this and older posts (where you also commented). Ciao!
