Mesa M6 Carbine & Powerhouse 1200/ Ampeg 810e

Cabinet/Amp Head Help - Ampeg/MarkBass

Hello bass buddies - starting a new thread to keep ideas separate.

Found a Mesa Boogie M6 Carbine and Powerhouse 1200 1x15/4x10 cab from different owners. Little bit crazy priced. $2,600 CAD all in. I’ve been using a similar rig at a studio we practice at.

I am looking at a used Ampeg 8x10e ($500) from a rehearsal studio liquidation and I can try and stomach the Carbine M6 cost ($1,000)

Thoughts and comments?

The carbine is a dynamite amp. I owned one for a bit then upgraded to the 9, and then the whole lightweight thing happened and bye bye went the carbine. I miss that amp. Nothing else comes close for heft and dynamics.

You may have to send it to Mesa for performance/reliability upgrades, but you can call them with the serial number and they can tell you if that work has been done.

The powerhouse doesn't get a lot of love around here but I also owned one of those. And I really liked it. But I bought mine used for $550 with some obvious defects, which I fixed, and then sold for $550. That price for the powerhouse is too high.

The M6 is a great amp. Especially if you use any pedals in front. You get the tone from the pedals and all the heft the amp has to offer. Plus, it's only 25 lbs.
Make sure you call Mesa first with the serial number though.
If you do buy it, download and read the manual. The MID is "Boost Only". Very important.
