Any fans of the film Manhunter out there? I saw it again recently and dug it.
I'm a big Michael Mann fan... and while Manhunter doesn't rank as one of his best (it was early in his career), I love the artsy look and tone, appreciate all the B-level actors, the script is solid and the soundtrack and score are just add so much to the total package.
I gotta say I loved the Red Dragon re-make. It's a completely different type of flick... usual Hollywood vibe to it. Some great acting in that one.
Mann's films are so authentic and direct. There are usually very little lighthearted or comedic moments in his work. He usually shoots in actual locations (instead of studios) and his lighting always has a very "real" quality to it... like I'm not watching a typical movie filled with the regular, mainstream feel.
The Insider is by far my favorite of his... but I also love Heat, Collateral and Miami Vice. I didn't care for Ali (couldn't buy into Will Smith in the title roll) or Blackhat.
Any other fans out there?
