My story:
mike watt is one of my favorite all time bassist. He's what I call and use the term a " lead bassist". He plays his bass like a lead guitarist. Very unique and awesome one of a kind bassist. Me being a fender guy, I don't play really anything outside fender and squier. However I did pick up a 2014 Gibson sg special for a deal of the century. Mike watt having influence on that decision.i don't play it much but I won't part with it. I really like the short scale, and the neck is very comfortable. It's just an awesome bass and it's a Gibson.

On the Subject:
Mike watt as a young bassist played fender p bass and also a Gibson eb3. This was in the Minutemen days. Anyway as watt became older in age he primarily plays a 1965 eb3 and a 1969 eb0.he has stated that getting older physically his hands don't perform like they did in his younger days so in order to perform and play like he always did the short scale Gibson eb series helps him. Backing him up I can honestly say that I'm a faster and tighter player while playing them short scales. If you have seen his 2 Gibson basses they are heavily modified, road worn and whatever else. This new reverend prototype he plays is a bass that suites his needs. Pickups , bridge, short scale neck with a fender like head, a Gibson sg influenced body, 1 volume 1 tone knob and p style pickups. I like seeing him play those old gibsons, that's his look, his character. This new bass of his makes me wanna customize my own perfect bass to fit my standards.

Watts the man - he played in my small coastal tavern recently and used the Reverend - sounded like Watt.

Here he is from a couple months ago when he was in Sacramento. He sounded great. I talked to him a bit after the show and he said that the prototype was almost there but not quite ready. If it's reasonably priced I might be tempted to get one.

I would seriously consider paying full retail for one of these given everything that's been posted. I love Reverend basses; can't part with my Rumblefish. The p-pickup seems perfect for this. Add short scale and we have a winner. I like the looks of the earlier prototype headstocks a lot, and I also like the last bass with the trad Reverend headstock and the blade pickup, but I have no idea how the blade style would sound. The color combo is good, too. Definitely interested. Doesn't hurt to have MW's input, either. I admire his playing and tone. Thanks for keeping us informed with pics and the back story!
