Mikro Bass Strings too short for Mikro bass

I bought a pack of Ibanezs iebs5 strings for my gsrm25 mikro bass and the strings are too short. The pack says 28.6 scale and I measured the bass just to make sure but the strings taper about an inch from the nut. Did I get a bad pack or am I missing something here?

That sucks. Glad I didn’t buy those.

For the record, my Mikro has a set of long scale strings. The ADG all work like normal, but I stuck the E through the post sideways and wound it like my guitar strings (one over, one or so under) and it worked fine.

I'd contact the seller & see about getting a new pack, if you look at the photo on the packaging, the taper starts above the nut:

If that doesn't work out, FretNation has you covered:

we just went to put my mikro strings from amazon on my mikro, and the wrap is so short that the taper starts in between the first and second frets.

the seller, btw, is amazon.

i was pretty disappointed - my mikro's strings go dead faster than any other bass, and i was hoping coated string would help.

i do, however, have a theory that these might fit on the smallguitars.com bass...

A friend of mine who I helped upgrade the pickups on his MiKro last Christmas uses conventional short scale bass strings, 32" for most manufacturers, 32.75" for GHS, and they fit just fine. He gets the best tone out of his MiKro with GHS Balanced Pure Nickels.

Here to say "Mee too", two packs, both B's start the taper over an inch early. Ibanez, I am disappointed. My saving grace is my Hipshot drop tuner, the string slot is just a tad wider than the factory pegs, so a long-scale 130 (just barely) fits normally.

G Aichele, are those the La Bella 760FS-S ? They are the same gauge as the original Ibanez rounds... now they have brought out a version for the Mikro,

La Bella 760FM-P Mini Flatwound

but the gauge is .005 larger - one German bassist said he had to file the nut larger for the G!

What were they thinking?

Just want some that fit - still looking for a flatwound B string, since nobody but Dunlop has a 5-string shortscale flatwound set - and theirs don't fit the Mikro.

What were they thinking?
The set is actually for the Squier Mini Precision, which has the same scale as the Mikro but less room between the ball-anchoring and the 1st tuning post (in other words, many normal short-scale set didn't fit properly).
As to what they were thinking: they probably thought a higher gauge fit the bass (again, the Mini P primarily) better. A number of customers seem to agree, for what it's worth. A nut slot can be easily filed open, or a nut can be replaced.

Are you sure the Dunlop short-scale 5-string flatwound sets (DBFS40120S and DBFS45125S) don't fit the 5-string Mikro?
It's not true Dunlop is the only company that makes shorty fiver flatwounds: there's also the 760FS-B-S set by La bella, and a short-scale version of the Galli Jazz Flat JF45105 can be ordered from the company website (length is selectable through a drop-down menu on the product page). Finally, one could contact Pyramid and see if the 640/5B set can be custom-ordered in short-scale form.
