Hey there, I'm a DB player about to graduate with a degree in jazz studies. I was wondering if anyone could give me insight into current military auditions? The forms I came across are quite dated and don't match up against the posted requirements. I'm primarily interested in the AF and Navy and since I'm graduating in May, I'm not quite sure when to go about auditioning? Is it important to double on something other than EB?

I did four years as a bassist with the Navy. Feel free to PM me and I'll give you my number and we can chat. The long and short of it is, it was a great job with some caveats. The GI Bill covered the rest of my BM, my MM, and most of my DMA. The people I served with were a mixture of pro to not so pro players. Sometimes the gigs seemed lame, and as a bassist, you'all pull double duty as aux percussion for marching. BUT, pay and bennies were good, and I continue to benefit from my service even now. You'all be busy in the Navy as there are usually only two bassists in each fleet band. And you'll be amazed at how fast your enlistment goes!
