Serious question, setting the politics aside.
Anyone know how directly a tariff on Mexican imports would affect MIM bass prices?
Numbers being thrown around are 25% for Mexican imports. Is that 25% before the markup? For a currently $800 bass, I'm guessing the markup in the range of 50%, so maybe you'd see a $100 increase ($800*0.50*0.25=$100)?
Or would these somehow be exempt because they are made for a US company? I have no idea how this stuff works which is why I'm asking. I have been considering adding a MIM J to my small collection and how this might drive the listed price is a factor to me.

I dont know the details of the suggested tarrifs but typically the markup is after the US dealer cost. So assuming $800 retail, the bass costs $400. If the cost goes up to $500 retail would go up to $1k.

Of course dealers and manufacturers will try to lessen the burdon and eat some of that, but there will be price increases for the consumer.

Last time import tariffs were imposed I was looking at a Dub King and they jumped from $750~$800 to north of $1200.

Then, of course, there are the US manufacturers who could use this increase to increase their prices ;).
