Mini-HBs or Firebird Pickups in A Chinese Hofner Bass?

The title is the question. I have read that you can swap out the mediocre Sino-Staple pickups that come in the cheap Hofners with mini-humbucker guitar pickups.

The dimensions seem to be compatible and I know of people putting in Duncan Mini-HBs. Rumors are Firebird pickups will work as well. The Epiphone Viola bass (Hofner clone) comes with what look like mini-HBs.

You can always buy German-made Hofner pups, but they cost more than the bass itself.

Has anyone tried this? I finally got my cheap Hofner playing nicely but I would like more versatility in the tone.

Check the measurements but the guitar version sounds pretty good in my Eastwood Messinger.

I do believe the Hofner bass pickups are the same size as a minihumbucker. The manufacturers should have dimensions on their websites.
