MM+P Pickup Configuration

Hey Yall! First time poster long time reader...

I'm looking to purchase a 5 string bass and retro fit it with new electronics and just a general beefing up. I've been researching basses that have this configuration and the one that sparks the most interest is the Sandberg California V and if you don't know already that bass is... not cheap.

I've been looking into pickups now and I would love to have some help! Nordstrand looks like a fairly reputable company in the pickup world and their Bigman series is intriguing, I was curious if that'll do what I'm looking for I'm hoping to put a 3 way toggle in for parallel/series/single and don't know which ones do that.

Now for the P pickup, do I keep it within the same company and go for something like the NP5V or similar, or do you recommend trying one of the 51P pickups, would that pair well?

I know there's tons of other companies to choose from pickups so if I'm looking in the wrong spot I'd love to be pointed in the right direction :)

Researching this same thing. I am building a new bass and this intrigues me.

There is an older thread here discussing this.
P Bass with a Musicman pickup

a long time ago, I built this Warmoth. I sold it. It had a John East preamp and a Carvin MM pickup with Fender '62's in the neck. I just didn't gel with it. I probably did not give it enough time, but the configuration seemed mismatched. Crowded controls and i did not like the dull MM and the shiny P. Aesthetics really is why I think I got rid of it.
