I have been using an AG 700 with Aguilar SL 112 for quite a while, but my ears grew tired of the baked-in mid oriented sound of SL 112.

I'm looking for a modern sounding cab primarily for home use, where a 5 string StingRay / L-2500 / Sadowsky Modern would shine with a solid low end and biting highs. You get the idea. It should get as loud as SL 112 if needed - for the occasional small gig.

AG 700 users, any suggestions? Some notes:
  • I'm happy with my head - sounds transparent through monitor speakers.
  • I considered Aguilar DB 210, but I hear a similar mid character on online demos. Might be wrong though.
  • I'm not interested in combo amps, because I might keep the SL 112 just "in case" (pun intended).
I'm all ears!

Sorry to answer even though I'm not a AG 700 user - Barefaced Big Baby corresponds exactly to your description: modern sounding, no baked-in tone (in fact, it's FRFR), known to absolutely shine with a solid low end and biting highs.

You can ask in the Barefaced Official thread, I'm sure you'll find several bassists who are more than happy with the AG 700 + BF Big Baby combination.

2 recommendations, a Mesa Subway cab with 210 or 410 will be modern type cabs with less mid bump. They’re awesome but pricey for some peoples budget. The older style Aguilar cabs with ceramic speakers will also not have the mid bump (nor will most quality older style ceramic loaded cabs). Since you’re not going to move them, the older and heavier cabs maybe acceptable for you. Also, the Hartke HD115 is quite good in this category - no mid bump. The HD410 in this brand have the mid bump.

I general, Neo loaded cabs have more of a mid bump - not necessarily because they are Neo, but that seems to be the design. The older ceramic cabs tended not to be designed with a mid-bump.

I gotta second this one. I've been thru a lot of high end cabs and this one is it by far.

I am not sure if your talking about 'Low Mid Bump' or wanting Modern 'Mid Scoop' type tone

The Barfaced is FRFR and should be able to get what you want with AG 700 with a little tweaking

I have a Mesa Subway 1x15 and it is very FRFR; no low mid bump, clear present midrange and taunt but well controlled low end also excellent tweeter[horn]

I did consider Big Baby before purchasing Mesa

We all seem to have different Idea's what all the adjectives for Bass tone translate to :) but I would consider Mesa Cab as Modern and sounds great with my Stingray Special

The Stingray was priced where I wanted to stay at BUT If tomorrow my Doctor told me you only have a year left I would buy a Sadowsky NYC Modern:)

If somehow my Stingray stops sounding great to me and I get bored may swap to Metroline Modern

I'm a big fan of RevSound 112 cabs, very efficient, neutral tone and very light (I have 2 at 21 lbs each). You can customize the build to get whatever tolex and grill material combination that you want. Onyl downside is that they are made to order so you have to be patient. Not sure what the wait time is these days, but if interested call David at RevSound and discuss.

Thanks for all the responses. Unfortunately, the fore-mentioned brands are not available in my country. Not even on the second hand market.

Anyone has experience with Markbass MB58R series?
I have understood that 104 Energy is practically the same as older 104HR. They have bump in upper midds and cut through very well, but may not be something you are searching.

Actually, the Aguilar DB series(ceramic) cabs have a pronounced mid bump. It's the GS series that are more mid scooped. As Aguilar discontinued the GS series the used market is the only option.

Thanks for the correction. Just curious, are you sure it’s neo? I’ve never found anything that said it was, just that that GS 112 is 42lbs with a cast speaker and 56 ounce magnet? I had deducted it was and old school ceramic speaker.
