I'm not currently in a band, just jamming with random people here and there, so I'm trying to make my board as versatile as possible. I'm looking for the ever-elusive "last" drive pedal to add to my board to get heavily overdriven/distortion tones. I've got fuzz covered with my Wren and Cuff Pickle Pie B and a RedWitch Zeus. I've got low-medium gain overdrive covered with my Darkglass Vintage Microtubes. What I'm looking for is a pedal that will give me distorted tones that are between mild OD and Fuzz. I initially looked at the Darkglass B3k/B7k but the mid scoop wasn't to my liking and the top end sounded a bit fizzy. The MXR Bass Distortion hasn't wowed me in any demos that I've heard of it. I then looked into the ZVEX Basstortion which sounded great on the Bassic Gear Review video but every other video I hear of it sounds like farts. I'd love something that will get me an aggressive RATM/Audioslave/MUSE type sound that stacks well with other pedals. So now I'm looking very closely at the Moog MF Drive and the Xotic Effects Bass BB Preamp. Does anybody have any experience with either of those two pedals? Do they stack well with other pedals? Do you lose a lot of definition without a clean blend? For reference my rig consists of a Passive Flea Signature Jazz bass and an Active Ibanez BTB675 played through an Eden Metro 210 cab. I use an MXR Bass Preamp at the front of my chain to match signal levels between the passive and Active basses BTW.
