The guitar solo on Mr. Blue Sky by ELO is one of my all time favorite tones.

Can one of you effects/pedal gurus explain to me how that was done and can this be duplicated in a lower frequency on bass and still sound nice and consistent, hollow and fuzzy?

I've never been one to dive deep into pedal combinations.

Thank you.

Kudos, one of my all-time favourite songs.

Personally, I don't think there's anything 'clever' going on tone/effect wise. To my ears, it sounds like a neck P90 pickup and a driven tube amp. Not to mention a few £1,000s of studio wizardry.

I'm not sure that this is going to translate easily to a bass guitar, however. I reckon you'd need some kind of single coil pickup close to the neck for a start - a Jazz bass might get you there, and a marshall amp simulator.
