Does anybody have a subtle example of how this pedal sounds?

I see a bunch of demos but they all show the effect at a high level. I don't love the robotic thing at it's extreme but would like to hear something that's just slightly blended in the mix before pulling the trigger.

I don’t have any clips of it but I just got mine today. I have had this pedal before like the Aguilar and sold them. Recently I’ve learned better how to use them and have gotten both again new.

Since the MXR just arrived yesterday and just worked with it a good deal today I can tell you that it is a very easy pedal to use judiciously. I have a Moogerfooger for my wackier stuff and with the dry knob and Q knob on the MXR I can dial in a very mild quack that works well with finger style as well as slap. Hope this helps.

That helps a bunch.

Thanks!

The sensitivity knob seems more important than on other envelope filters i've used. Many other filters, it seems that there is like 1 setting per bass that makes the filter work , but with the MXR, there are multiple sensitivity settings that work in different ways.

I had the MXR filter. I didn't like the harsh sound. It's easy to dial different sounds but they're all kinda harsh and sterile to me.
Me too, I called it the wack-box because it's a bandpass filter with a blend. I seem to use high output basses passive or active and the wack box could never get subtle enough. I like the sound of a tunable low pass with a blend...like the Ashdown Dr Green's Doctor's Note (bloody stupid name) which has both band and low pass mixed or one or the other.

I've gone through a lot of filters. I'm beginning to think I only like them in theory. Every one I've had has annoyed me on some level or another after a while.

That's funny, I agree, but I'm not discouraged. I use filters on trumpet too, actually less frustrating but with just as much president. Lately I've been more content with the EH BassMicroSynth except that if was in a loud band on bass I would find the small volume dip to maybe disqualify it, but since I'm recording and looping bits as soundtracks only, I'm still very happy with it. Actually the only times I've used an envelope filter on bass is throughout a whole song, never on and off in a song.
