Jk about beating him up (Cause I already did)

But anyways, I invited my friend over to study for class and he see's the bass in my room, here's the conversation:

Friend: Nice, you play guitar?

Me: It's a bass

Friend: Like from dubstep?

Me:......

Is this common with younger people? I thought the existence of bass guitar was common knowledge.

Eh. I didn't know what a bass guitar was until a couple months before I started playing. In this day, dubstep could certainly be the most common context it's used for the younger folk.

Personally, I'd have used the situation as a teaching experience for the uneducated, rather than an excuse to act condescending/elitist.

Aren't you a younger person? Ask around. This is quite the biased crowd, and anyone that members here routinely talk to (family/close friends/etc) will know the bass guitar is by virtue of talking to us.

I should add that the bass guitar came about originally as a weapon when Nikola Fender battled Thomas Alva Gibson for the right to amplify air with electricity. This was after the War Between the Dinosaurs which was fought by Alley Oop and the other cavemen, which was subsequently commemorated by the 2112 Overture, written by Chivekofski.
