NAD: Ampeg PF350 and SVT210AV

Hi All

Am a guitarist with bass as second instrument. After being bass amp less for a long while and we'll stopped playing bass as well, decided to get back. Started to take jazz bass lessons and took out my Pedulla RB4 out of retirement. My other bass is Kingston MTD4 czech made.

My amp for the longest time is an Ibanez sw65 practice amp. I bought an Ashdown superfly 500 which is quite cranky, bought it 2nd hand. So now wanted a compact set for practice/recording and maybe small gigs.

Been wanting an ampeg for the longest time and tried a couple. The local shop has a pf350 floor model @ 50% off.
So snapped it up. I asked for a matching compact cab, I did not want the portaflex cab as it was too big/wide for my apartment. It's gonna sit beside a Mesa Rect mini stack and limited space. The shop keeper said there's 1 SVT210AV left in nearby shop. Last one in whole of HK where I live. So snapped it up. Am very chuffed with it. Lovely warm ampeg tones. May wanna upgrade to the V4B if I move to bigger space or the pf50t while keeping the pf350 as back up.

Here's a shot of the amps:

Hi Jimmy

Niicee! Gonna give it a shot as well then! Am still waiting on my Mesa Mini Recto Straight 1x12 to come. Takes 4-6 months as its gotta be shipped from states by the dealer...

By the way, the -15dB pad seems very powerful on the pf350, am using the Pedulla Active and padded the volume dropped by tonnes, seems more so than other pads. Without the pad the sound seems more 'open' as well. Any risk using actives without the pad?

Thanks all!

An yeah loving the Mini rig of doom!!

None whatsoever. I use very hot active basses sometimes and never use the pad. I hate what it does to the sound. Just back down the gain accordingly.

I now own the exact same setup, except my brand new stuff looks a bit different. The bass cab doesn't have the black tabs to pull off the speaker grill. For 350 watts the head is really heavy. The fan is quiet. At first after a few personal practice sessions I wasn't sure if I'd like the setup. But a TB'er suggested turning up the mid and bass about 3:00 and turn the treble to 9:00. It worked. At about 12:00 pre and 11:00 main, the amp sounds pretty sweet for home rehearsal, which is what I bought the setup for.

You've got a rig that would make even some "real" bass players envious! LOL

Nice setup!
thank you @basscapes ! Much appreciated. It sure sounds nice late at night in the living room when I'm playing along with YouTube my practice list of songs. I never thought I'd like a sealed cabinet but I'm getting used to the sound and rather like it. It feels somehow more "muscular" and has a faster response on the low notes. I'm starting to like that a lot. I almost boxed it up and sent it back for a PF-112 ported cab, but I'm thinking more and more this one's staying.
