NAD: Beaten to all heck Orange AD200B

About a week ago I went into a local gear shop, that is in the process of closing down, in order to grab an Orange OB1-300 and a couple of cabs.

Whilst there I noticed a rather beaten up AD200B which had previously been hired out as a backline for the Soundwave Festival and had been diagnosed as faulty. I asked about it and was told that it had failing output tubes. When checking over it I noticed that there were a couple of blown fuses. I replaced them and it came back alive. I waited for a bit and none of the tubes failed, in fact all filaments lit up and when playing through it, it sounded great.

So today I went in and handed over $500 for it (these retail here for $3,300 and usually go second hand for $2,000). I now have a working although in dire need of a retube, service, and cleanup, AD200B. I left it with my amp tech and will now have to play the waiting game to find out if it will pay off and not have anything else wrong with it.

Well done. Great amps. Often maligned as a one-trick-pony but what a trick it is. Love mine. Don't be afraid to use the tone controls hard, I tend to back off the bass and boost mids and trebles to taste.

Spoke with my tech yesterday and am happy to report that IT'S ALIVE!

Had to have a full re-tube and it turned out that the festival tech had played doctor inside it and changed components around... Why? No idea. They may have been trying to supe it up or possibly just cater for the mismatched tubes they threw in. Either way, it has been cleaned up and is ready to go once again.

Going to give it a good break in this weekend :)

Ah ha do I spy an OBC115 there, mmmm good choice.I love mine as well, special edition 2009 in white and my Terror 500 does the job very well.
Head and cabs look ace by the way.
Orange heads sound best to me through Orange cabs ,this could start something

Bottom is the OBC115, top is the ported OBC210. I know mixing speakers is apparently verboten here but I really like how they sound.

wow nice price. yeah i owned the AD200 and obc115, what a great pair. Also remember that orange tone stack is the fender tone stack so flat (if you care) is .5 (halfway between 0 and the first dot) on bass, mids cranked, treble at 0.

FYI i didn't like the obc410 with those, too scooped in the mids, the OBC115 was just perfect. great setup, congrats!
