About a week ago I went into a local gear shop, that is in the process of closing down, in order to grab an Orange OB1-300 and a couple of cabs.
Whilst there I noticed a rather beaten up AD200B which had previously been hired out as a backline for the Soundwave Festival and had been diagnosed as faulty. I asked about it and was told that it had failing output tubes. When checking over it I noticed that there were a couple of blown fuses. I replaced them and it came back alive. I waited for a bit and none of the tubes failed, in fact all filaments lit up and when playing through it, it sounded great.
So today I went in and handed over $500 for it (these retail here for $3,300 and usually go second hand for $2,000). I now have a working although in dire need of a retube, service, and cleanup, AD200B. I left it with my amp tech and will now have to play the waiting game to find out if it will pay off and not have anything else wrong with it.
