Nate Mendel (NOT signature)

Saw the Foos the other night. For one song, Nate played a bass I don't think I've ever seen before. Body vaguely shaped like a P, but with a slotted headstock (tuners on both sides, of course), and what looked like a very large pick guard (maybe even two different pieces, not sure) that covered most of the body, including most of the area from the bridge out to the end of the body (not someplace you'd normally be playing). Just curious, not something I've ever seen before. Anybody know what it is? I've Googled about his equipment and haven't found anything that looks like it's that particular instrument.

Saw them also , at some point he played a Ric and also a black Gibson ripper. He played his red P bass and a white Fender and Lakland too.

He's pretty much a P guy, Lakland for songs in drop D, and I believe an Ampeg AEB1 on occasion. What song were they playing when you spotted the mystery bass?

Sounds like possibly the Ampeg, seems to fit the description.

Yes, based on the pickguard shape and the slotted headstock, that looks like it's probably it. I was pretty far back so even with binoculars, I couldn't get a really good look at it. But the way the pickguard covered most of the body was pretty noticeable. Thanks. Now I can sleep tonight. ;-)
