NBD - 2006 Fender CIJ 75' RI

Love the bass.

It gets such a classic jazz growl tone and I've been eyeing the Japanese 75 re-issues like a hawk and finally found one that I love.

My question is, keep the pickup cover or ditch it?

Agreed. I think PU covers look cool but I could never deal with the loss of usable space.

For me, I like it either with both covers (bridge and neck PU) or none. Or maybe neck cover only like Marcus Miller but never bridge cover only.

That is my attitude too. The pickup takes away the option of playing by the bridge, and that is not acceptable.

I have one from 1996 and a "real" '78. Love the MIJ. Mine still has the period incorrect '60s bridge-pu location. Did they change this later?

Yeah- I play over the bridge pickup too much (especially now that I have the jazz) that the pupcover would get in the way.

Love your bass. These are my absolute favorite Fenders, I own three. Here they are. I play with my thumb anchored on the bridge pickup so no covers for me.

The one on the left is a 1995 with a Marcus Miller neck. I had ditched the RW because I really just prefer maple necks.
