So last Saturday I picked up a 1997 Fender Jazz V, Priced @ 675. I got it out the door for 500. I posted about it here:
NBD aka I'm headed to Lowe's to get new lighting.

Anyway, while I was there (Guitar Gallery Pelham, AL. location) I also played around with a brand new Player Series Jazz fiver as well priced @ 950, they offered it to me for around 725 or 750 out the door. Well I went back today to look at a used Peavey Firebass 700 amp on consignment, while there I was told 700 out the door on the bass. So I put 200 down on it and put it on layaway, will pay it off over the next few weeks, then sneak it in the house. 🤣

No trip to Lowe's was involved today either. Matter of fact today I need to install the new light fixtures I bought last Saturday.

They got your number now Clark ;)

That they do. They used to never have much in bass gear, which was a good thing for my pocket book.

Kinda tells you something about the economy when they start piling up used bass gear and even dropping prices on new gear.

I've never seen anything quite like it. They got a lot of used basses, amps, cabs and stuff on consignment right now. More than I've ever seen in there. It's always been a place that catered almost exclusively to guitarists.

Makes ya wonder. Or maybe bassists around here are taking up drums or something 🤣

I mean Barry White back on the wall was checkin out that bass. If he approves the ladies will love it.

I noticed the album, but never thought about it being Barry White playing on a white piano, pinned on a white wall behind a white bass. And yes he's definitely checking it out 🤣

Congrats! There’s a guitar shop in a nearby town that I frequent, and the owner knows exactly what buttons to push with me. I get “the look” from my wife if I even mention maybe stopping by there. Sounds like you have a similar shop!
Being a "guitar" shop it just hasn't been a big threat to my wallet as much as I've tried to give them business over the years.

But they have upped their game on the bass side. So much so I'd much rather go there now than my local GC. And they're currently celebrating their 35th anniversary in business too.

I'm glad to be able to give a locally owned, two store location, my business. And they have always tried to look out for me what few times I have done business with them.

Nice bass! And I want to warn you away from the Fire bass.... I had one, and they have an internal limiter which I think Peavey called dynamic compression or some such. I never found a way to defeat it, and for me, I would hit a certain volume level and no more, just total squish. If course the volume level was too low .

If you find this to be not true please let me know, it wasn't a bad sounding head, just very... Limiting.

I don't know if I'm going to get the Peavey head yet or not. But I don't recall of reading anything here at TB about that head being very limiting except that it's a very clean head and doesn't produce much dirt/grit but still gets very loud. https://www.talkbass.com/threads/opinions-on-peavey-firebass-700.779443/

It's on consignment so they called the owner to see if he would take 250 for it. He said yes. But I'm thinking 200 after looking at other used ones online. If he agrees to that price it's going to be hard to not take him up on it.

The reason I'm looking at it, my solid state GK Goldline 500 is parked on stage at church. That leaves me with 24 hr access to only one head, my class D Mesa D-800+. So I'm looking for another low priced solid state head to "park" at home.

I'm trying to get to where I can leave the Mesa packed up and ready to go to my weekly band stuff so I need something else to replace the GK Goldline at home for solo practicing.

They also have a SWR head for sale as well. I don't remember which one at the moment. But I'll check it out next Saturday. It and the Peavey have been there for months.

I’m going to have to stop by there one day. I haven’t checked out their shop in a while.

It had been awhile for me too until last week. And I've never been to their Tuscaloosa location although I've been told it's much bigger and worth the trip.

Every time I go out near Tuscaloosa, which isn't really that often, I always say I'm going to stop in there and then I forget. Going to music shops is probably the last place I need to be going though  🤣

I hear ya. We know I need to stay away from them. From no fivers to two fivers in 8 days is a bit much. But both were too good of deals to pass up especially since I needed a fiver. Two for 1200 bucks, one used, one new. Heck I had been looking at a new Schecter J5, that's a grand by itself.
