I scoured the shops and Craigslist for a $50 4-string, and got this for $65. I've never seen a nastier fretboard.

The plan is to take the neck (with headstock cut off) and electronics and make a travel bass that is 35" OAL and about 4" wide at the bridge, but with a normal 34" scale and Jazz string spacing. I'll hot-rod the preamp, too, so it will be a headphone amp.

I have a few weeks until vacation starts, so we'll see if this is even possible.

i had one for awhile, as my fretted, and it looked just like yours until i modded (upgraded?) with black hardware. i found the neck to be ultimately responsive, and really nice/easy to play. the only reason i sold it was: i had too many instruments and i really only need one fretted.

seeing yours brings back a few memories: good luck on your modifications: and congrats on your new bass!

I noodled on it a but last night and it sounded and felt pretty nice, especially at the price. Needs a complete setup, but too late--I took the headstock off. Need something to deal with that fretboard, though.
