Today, my first ever 5-String arrived. I came across this one by a complete accident but the moment I found it I knew this was the one. It was the last one the e-shop had and they were even running a decent discount on it. Going by Jackson website, it seems they've been discontinued. The "Passed" sticker dated 2021 on the back seems to confirm it.
It just seems to have everything I wanted in a 5-string. Starting from the headstock, it's rocking the good ol' Fender headstock instead of the typical Jackson one, which I wasn't a fan of due to the extreme angle between the nut and tuner on the highest string. It even has this brace thingy to supposedly help with string tension. How much it actually helps, I have no idea.
Going down the neck, it's a 35" scale with 21 frets. That's pretty solid. However, the cool part is that it has the "MusicMan style" truss rod adjustment wheel.
The coolness continues down the body with EMG PJ pickup config. I wanted a versatile 5-String so this was a godsend. They're active only, with Volume, Blend and 3-band EQ knobs.
Finally, the string spacing at the bridge seems to be 18-19mm.
First moments with the bass - it's really comfortable to hold and thanks to it having only 21 frets, I find that the neck handles even better than my 24-fret Sire M2 4-string, despite the extra width. Out of the factory, or better yet warehouse, in which it's been sitting for the past 2 years, the setup seems decent, may fiddle with it a little later on but it's definitely not unplayable.
Overall, very happy with it so far.
If you've never heard of the bass before, and I don't blame you, here's David Ellefson introducing it
Finally, what you're here for, some pics.
