I know I'm not first to the party but I thought I'd write a short review anyway.
I traded in my Dimension Bass for a Nate Mendel P bass. I'll just mention the things I like and dislike about this model, since it's a P bass and almost everyone is more than familiar with a good ol' P bass.
Likes:
- Neck width, depht and finish. The neck plays fast, the nitro can feel a little sticky but if you wipe it down before and after playing, it feels ultra fast and nice. It's not thick neck, so it's pretty comparable to the Standard series (MIM).
- SD SPB3: the dreaded quarter pound pick-up. I have to say.. I love it. It just works with rounds and a pick, and that is exactly what I intend to use this bass for. Nice hot output, big bass, slight mids scoop, but the high are in no way nasty or shrill. I have the famous GZR pickup in my other bass, and I might consider switching completely to the SPB-3's.
Dislikes:
- Not a fan of roadworn look, and my bass looks to be even more roadworn than the other basses I see online (this thing looks like it was dragged behind a truck for a couple of miles). Also it feels like some dings are covered in clear coat... and that is kinda odd to me. But the finish on the bass is seeper nice in collor. Very deep red with some hints of purple. Also I like the gold undercoat that theve used. If you're going for the roadworn look. it's always nice to see collors that match.
- there is a ding in the neck. I know it's there, and that bothers me but there is no way I feel it when playing since its at the back of the 13nd fret at a place I don't put my thumb when playing. Could also be part of the "roadworn" look.
I'm very curious to see if I'll get it even more roadworn.
Feel and sound is awesome and since I would always put a new pickup in a MIM, it's not that much more expensive. Fretwork an neck feel a bit better, so the price makes sense.
