Arrived in the mail today was a beauty of a tiny white bass!
Backstory: For the past few years, I've admired the mods that Curt Preston has done with basses he's purchased. He changes pickups, pickguards, electronics, and tuners with an eye toward making them a more unified and tasteful whole. Recently, one of his more involved projects was ready to leave his hands, and I was lucky enough to negotiate its arrival at my house. Here's a post of it on Short Scale Bass Club: The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4
Unboxing: Wow, I don't think I've ever had occasion to use the term "superlative" to describe a packing job for a used instrument, but this time it's warranted. Careful labelling outside, extra cardboard reinforcement, well-placed internal padding, and a decent little gig bag to boot! Very nice! Strings even had a layer of stout paper between them and the frets!
In the gig bag pockets I found the truss rod wrench, straplocks, and a little flashlight to charge up the Luminloy side dots! And even the packaging from the strings that are on the bass!
Then I pulled out the little beast and was really delighted in it. It looks fantastic (my photos are not as good, but they will have to do)!
Scale length is sub-short:
Is it small? Maybe...
Is it small? In a word: yes.
And these two will probably get played back-to-back a number of times:
28.6" scale Jazz and a 30" scale P-bass. What's not to love?
Many of you who know me realize there are two things which have yet to be determined:
1. What's it's name?
2. What 3" wide custom strap from Coco Guitar Straps will go on it?
Dunno. Stay tuned and feel free to ask questions and post suggestions!
I'm going to go play!
