Well, this bass has just been sitting in the corner for the last 5.75 years or so.
First off, I'd like to refer to my 2018 thread where I attempted to figure out what this bass is/was...... I documented my progress up to a point, then I decided to take a break from it. It just sat in pieces up until several days ago. Here's the thread from 2018:
If you read this, you'll realize I had not yet discovered the brand of bass. However, after much scouring the internet, I FINALLY found a pic of a Charvel "Dusty Hill"-style bass with the exact same back cover. HOWEVER, this bass body must not have come with the current neck, as it looks to have been square-heeled, rounded off to fit the neck pocket of this bass. Kind of a shoddy job, but it works. Also, in the 2018 posting you can see pics of where someone got "bridge-moving crazy". Tons of holes but at least the majority are under the Jackson bridge. One TB'er called it "St. Valentines Day Massacre", lol.
OK, back on track, I decided to give it a slight 'burst and call it good. I achieved this by spraying/sanding/spraying more StewMac Nitro Lacquer on it. I'm not a burst fan....... but I absolutely LOVE this look on this Ash body. 2-piece, BTW.... and very light.
I painted the cavities with some shielding paint and instead of the sole volume pickup, I installed a mini dual concentric pot for a bit of tone options. I also chose to keep the DiMarzio P pickup that was in it. Re-attached the neck after doing a bit (A LOT!) of fret dressing. Didn't really do a level on it, but the action turned out pretty good.
The tuners operate surprisingly well and must be original, since the only holes in it are for the tuner locating dowels. The bridge, on the other hand, took quite a bit of coaxing to get the bridge height screws working, along with the intonation screws. Pretty ugly, but I want to keep it on there. As for the 4 screws above the bridge, maybe when the other owner was trying to re-position the bridge, or previous string mute system or......?????
New nut, nothing fancy, but does the job.
Strung up with a set of D'Addario's and this sounds great. I think if the time was taken to do a proper leveling on the neck, a nice low action could easily be achieved.
Weight? 7Lbs 13.8 oz. Pretty amazing. Too bad I don't play full scale basses anymore.
Here's my attempt at pics with the new format. My last listing for a body ended up tripling the photos I attached.....go figure.
OK, I am most open to comments as to how I arrived at this being a Charvel parts bass. Pretty sure the neck is from an old USA '70's bass. I know they did some for Dusty Hill and pretty sure they were offered to the public. However, I think the body is an old 1B.
Ya know, I guess I could drive down to Chico (70 miles) and see if Mr. Charvel would help me clear things up. lol.
Hope you like it!

Today's theory regarding the re-worked neck heel: There are only 4 mounting holes on the neck flat, so no new holes have been re-drilled, nor any holes plugged. I'm thinking someone took a lot of time to remove 1/8" or so of the heel so the neck bolt holes would properly line up with the body holes.
And that's my theory. Thank You. Carry on.
