Got tis from FMIC today. $199 on the Fender website. They plug it as slightly thinner and lighter than a typical P. Thinner - a little - 1 5/8" vs 1 11/16" on my Vintera. Lighter? 8.3 lbs vs 8.77 for my Vintera, but my Vintera has chrome bridge and pickup ashtray covers. Fit and finish is pretty nice. A bigger neck pocket gap than some, but I've seen (and owned) ones that were far worse. And on this one the neck will not budge side-to-side, so a big plus. Pickup pole piece alignment is so-so, but again, I've had worse. The pickup is pretty hot and I won't know how well it plays with others until a gig this weekend. I've read some stuff about pickup placement being different than usual but this one is located in the same spot relative to the last fret as my Vintera. Maybe it's a pickguard rather than pickup issue. Not sure. There were a few cosmetic scuffs that cleaned up easily, nothing serious. The relief and action needed adjustment, again, no problem. I'd do that anyway. Oh, yeah, BTW, it's YELLOW! This one's a keeper, folks! So pleased to see quality affordable instruments coming into the marketplace. Very happy with this one! Oh, did I mention it's YELLOW! - BBB

Thank you, this is the one 311 joke I actually wanted
I’d never be able to put that bass Down. At first thought that color was a Beautiful Disaster, but I was All Mixed Up, it really Comes Original. If you’re on the fence about the yellow, Don’t Stay Home, go to your nearest Guitar Center and pick one of these up and You’re Gonna Get It. If you have questions about this bass color ask me, I’ll Be Here A While.

Looks like it has a j nut width too which is great IMHO. Is it basswood?

Great bass, enjoy!
Nope It's Poplar. They seem very well built for the $$. I bought a Yellow and a Lime Green one a while back.
I'm not sure. Thought I saw somewhere that it's poplar but FMIC ain't tellin'!
Yep. Poplar. As for the pickguard supposedly not matching....... they do match with most USA and MIM pickguards. It's actually the Squier "Debut" Series that's a tad off - the pickup is about 1/8" north of the Sonics, MIM's, etc... but there's enough room to change the pickguard out and scoot the pickup down a tad.

Update: Gigged the bass tonight. Exceedingly comfortable! The pickup is... aggressive. Lots of snarling mids. Not bad, just needed a little taming with the tone control on some tunes. I think, though, that the strings were also brand new but settled in tone-wise after a couple of sets. Of course, it could have been just ear fatigue, too!
