This lowly Squier Sonic Precision Bass has been wispering my name for several months, today I finally relented and brought it home.
The Sonic series is a entry level instrument with a MAP of $219.00, don't let the low price fool you. This bass has a beautiful maple neck with a 1.5 nut width, it's easily one of the best playing basses in the store. The poplar body is light and resonate, fit and finish are beautiful.
I like to test entry level gear so when I sell someone that first bass (or guitar) I can whole heartedly recommend it.
Absolutely astounding bass for the money. Video to come.

The Sonic is the hidden gem in the whole Squier line. I got one a couple of months ago, and let me tell you, I have basses that are close to ten times the price (MIA and MIJ Fenders), but I reach for this humble Squier most often nowadays. Changed the pickup and the rest of the electronics, the pickguard, leveled the frets (needed very little work), and what a beautiful bass this is. The light poplar body is very resonant, and the bass sustains like crazy.

The "limited," cool green Sonic P was recently added again at fender.com . It is always very tempting for myself, but knowing I would upgrade what I can (pickup, add Xtender, etc.-thus increasing the final price) and I do have two other Precision basses I love, it would be just another nice-to-have.

The Sonic Bronco, I must say without exaggeration, is an awesome bass as well. "Short scale is muddy/tubby" doesn't apply. LOVE playing it. The QC on the Sonic basses overall seems better than in many older Squier, though perhaps I was just lucky. But I rarely read very bad complaints about these out of the box.

Thanks, it took a bit of deliberation to figure out what wouldn't look too girly or too much like a toy...in the end I was even able to find knobs with abalone inserts which really tied it together...I popped a red lace sensor in it to keep more of the singlecoil character only better and a little less hum

I just put one of these together just for fun from factory second blemished parts. I was really surprised. Plays and sounds nice once I adjusted the bridge and truss rod. The p pickup sounds nice, the tuners work well, and tone control works well. One main complaint I hear about P basses is about the tone control , but this one sounds good in all knob positions. No sharp fret edges either. I don't know if they come playable out of the box though.
