As if I really needed another bass (I don't!)
I don't know why I was looking at bass gear on Craigslist, I had no good reason. Just wanted to see what's out there I guess. Also I had been thinking about getting a fretted neck to convert my fretless SX into an instrument I could actually play...

Wouldn't you know I ran across one that I just had to have... I have to say, regardless of price this bass sounds great to my ears, feels great and I think it looks outstanding. Excellent condition, not a significant scratch or ding anywhere, pots are quiet and turn smoothly, tuners work properly and the action is set where I like it (not super low, I like to dig in a fair amount). It does have a bit of fret wear but not enough to make it play badly. I wouldn't even know it if I hadn't gone looking specifically for fretwear. Weighs in a hair under 10 lbs so it's a bit of a chunk but not really terrible. I plan to play it mostly just sitting on the couch or whatever but it seems perfectly giggable.

Just thought I'd share since that brand doesn't seem to get as much love around here as it used to, and I feel like for $100 I got a really outstanding deal! I even like the headstock design, though it seems like the Ursa design was never terribly popular among TB'ers.

Some obligatory bass porn for yas:

Mmm, Mmm, MMM! Let me get outta here, before I'm overcome with GAS and do somethin' I ain't got no business doin'!

I just love it when I see people do NBD threads for basses that they did not need. I feel less alone with my GAS. It makes me feel that I am part of a community of like minded individuals...

P.S.
Love the American flag on the pickguard of a Chinese made bass. It makes the bass look more classy.

I don't want to be finicky but I will. It seems that the strings do not line up correctly between the pole pieces over the split-coil pickup. Does this create loudness issues? Do you have some strings that sound louder than others?

Wow look at that grain! Is this an SX luck-out or what! This time you got the bear! Nice!
I like to replace those SX bent bridges that don't have grooves so the saddles slide around with some after market bridge ($20-$30) for looks and stability, but the originals do work OK.
If SX had these in 5 string I'd be having serious GAS right now.

Doesn't look too out of whack to me. I got to play it a bunch over the weekend and didn't notice any string balance issues or any other issues for that matter. I even like the sound from the pickups on this thing. As far as I'm concerned it's just a really good bass, suitable for just about any gig. Maybe it needs shielding? Haven't had the pickguard off yet to see if it's shielded or not. Seems perfectly quiet at home but maybe she'll hum a little when I play with the band. We'll see pretty soon.
