Hey all! Been a while since I hit ya with a NBD. I actually have 2 NBDs but I was holding off till I got the pickguards dialed in. Lord knows I want everything to be perfect for you guys... :roflmao:

OK so a USA Geddy. Upgraded with Brantley pickups which sound fantastic. I let one of these get away a ways back and I've regretted it ever since. These are special IMO.

The original pearl white pickguard wasn't my thing so I went with Black and Cream. I do love a black and maple bass and it plays great.

Congratulations!
I really like my 2017 USA Geddy!

I was considering changing the pickups for Brantley Geddys, but saw a youtube review in which the reviewer said right at the end that his next video would feature the same bass with Brantleys, but then that follow up video never happened.
I messaged the guy to ask why, and he said that after the pickup swap, his bass sounded exactly the same.

So I just never bothered with changing anything on mine but the bridge.
I swapped the Fender "GL" bridge out for a Leo Quann Badass, which made no difference to sound, but looks better (to me) and the standard spacing feels a lot nicer to my hands.

Another related story, I recently played it at a gig that required us to use the club-provided sound technician.
I was playing bass>direct box>pa and iems.
During the first set, sound guy approached me between songs and asked if I could turn down the "bass knob a nudge on that active bass".
You should have seen the look on his face when I told him it's totally passive.

BadAss II is on my wishlist for my 2023 Geddy. Aside from the weird string spacing it is an awesome bass. The spacing is easy enough to get used to if it’s the only bass you play. I’ve been going between two basses so I notice it.

We all have different ears but to me there is a difference in the pickups, mostly in the bottom end.

I went with a Hipshot Kickass bridge. Even string spacing was enough of a reason for me! I had come across a pretty good comparison video of the stock bridge, BAII, Kickass and... something else. With headphones you can hear a difference but in real life, who knows. Still, to my ears all of them sounded better than stock.

Yeah, the white pearl guards are kinda too much. They were tolerable a couple decades ago.

I love Black n Maple, and BadAss bridges, too!
I have a 72 J and a Squier CV 70s Jazz V.
The 72 J platform is certainly Geddy adjacent.
The Squier follows the Geddy aesthetic (and has the proper 70s pickup spacing.
If these basses had a baby, I think it could be a proper GLJB! :laugh:

The 72 J was purchased 32 years ago. It had EMGs and a replacement black guard when I got it. Eventually, the EMGs were switched with Barts and a J Retro. Also installed a BadAss bridge and green guard. Love that bass, it's going to the grave with me.
The Squier was new, but got an electronics swap for EMG J5/BTS, a matte black control plate, and moved the jack to the side. Love the black on black with maple look! This also turned out to be an exceptional bass after a deep dive in the set up.
