need a light weight 2x12 cab for peavey mini max 500...any suggestions?

can anyone suggest a good light weight 2x12 cab for a peavey mini max 500? would prefer a vertical.
i have owned a berg 2x12 in the past which was awesome but i regrettably sold it for VERY cheap. too cheap. and also owned a genz benz shuttle which was great.

i pulled 500$ on the peavey and didnt realize there were other options. and the peavey is a bit overkill for me as i don't really need 500watts but the size and weight was what got me. could have got a GK mb212 for $1100 AU.

i'm stuck in a jam of sorts when it comes to choosing the right gear. with having chronic back pain, living in an upstairs apartment and i don't drive a car. i'm in a band with a mate of mine so i always get a ride with him which helps.

i live in australia.

As an experiment to emulate a high-priced boutique 2x12, i bought an empty Seismic 2x12" cab and put in 2 Dayton PA-310-8 12" woofers, run by my Peavey Mini-Mega.
My Fodera and Wolf 6-strings sound incredible through it. i toured with it all summer (name jamband guitar cat, and other gigs), doing big clubs, festivals, etc. It got continuous raves from house PA guys and compadres.
it's robust, reasonably lightweight, compact, totally pro-sounding with huge bottom, punchy mids and conversational highs. The Peavey and this cab are an excellent combination, and it'll be on almost every gig from here on.
the whole thing was around $250. hope this is helpful!

cool. thanks for the tip. looking on their ebay store now... it's the guitar 2x12 right?

it's about $290 shipped to me in AU
did you change the speaker connection? or just used 1/4" jacks?

yes, it's that 2x12" Seismic empty guitar cab, probably $124? as i recall. srry about the big jump in price to AU! maybe there's a local equivalent?
i didn't change the connection- i use the cab's 1/4" jack, with a Speakon on the other end from the Peavey.
i also did a bizarre (by TB standards) thing to it- i gave it 2 coats of Flex Seal rubber coat, right on the rat fur.
it filled the fur deep enough to no longer feel it, but maintained some texture- my chums dig its sorta-industrial look. i did that to negate the chronic rat fur magnet for hair, dirt and general rattiness. the rubberized surface sheds all that, and looks textural.

May I suggest - in light of your back problems - that you consider two 1x12 cabs? It would be easier to handle and you may find that some shows will only require you to bring a 1x12. I have Markbass equipment, so I have a 1x12 combo (the CMD121P) and a New York 121 to add to it. I also have a New York 212 that is great, but it does weigh about 25 lbs more than the 121. Other makers also provide such configurations that you may want to consider as well.

thanks. i do have a fender rumble V3 40w which i played a gig with on friday night in a small venue with guitarist, drummer, 30 piece choir and keyboards. it did the job micd into the PA. it's a very light weight amp.

Kudos to talkbass.com member 'Joe Vegas', who posted, up above, (and beyond), for making us aware that one can buy a cheap-but-extremly-well-engineered, empty-Sesmic-2x12 cabinet, and two full-range-bass PartsExpress.com Dayton PA310-8 12" bass speakers for about $250 total, and have a cab that does it all. A freaking 900W super-cab for $250. I am serious... All Hail Joe! I have been building cabs as long as I have been playing guitar and bass, 40+ years, and this configuration in my favorite. And it is DIY assembly only.

The perceived but minor IMO, downsides are...
- rat-fur-carpet covering,
- final weight = 63 pounds ( just deal with it, great tone IS heavy, IME. I use a collapsible hand-truck.),
- Particle-board construction, 5/8" plywood baffle

I followed Joe Vegas by coating the carpet rat-fur, with a liquid rubber product, sold as FlexSeal, to kind of help the ratfuzz to keep itself together, and to avoid picking up so much detritus.

But really, what do I know???

I mean... I'm playing a purple hollow-body bass with a Unicorn strap, right?!

The Aguilar sl212 is about the lightest I know of.

Personally, I doubt that an un-tuned small guitar cabinet with cheap speakers will make the OP happy after coming from a Bergatino.

I too was skeptical, so I did a rough WinISD modelling of the cab before I ordered it, using the T/S parameters of the PA310-8, and it looked really good. So I ordered the cab and speakers. When I received it, I measured the internal dimensions and port sizes, and plugged those into WinISD. It's like this cab was designed for these speakers... the cab is tuned to 48Hz... here's a SPL curve of the Seismic with the Daytons...

I only play a 4-string, and testify that the Seismic cab with the Daytons has a very-high performance-sound-quality-to-cost ratio. :thumbsup:
