need help on a decision: ampeg svt classic 6x10 made in USA for a 4x10 made in CHINA

I'm about to make a switch of cabinet. I have an Ampeg SVT Classic 610 HLF made in USA. I bought it in 2014. I'm about to switch it with a new Ampeg SVT Classic 410 HLF made in China bought in january 2018.

Should I do the switch? The guy is basically giving me the 410 for my 610.

What the main difference from an old made in USA to a new made in China. Please help me out deciding if I should do the switch or not. I'm making the switch just because the 610 is too big in size. Thank you

I love my 610 HLF. I'm switching it because it's too big and it's a pain in the ass bringing it around. You say that the Chinese are less muddy. Good to know. Then maybe I'm doing a good thing making the switch.
Ya, some people bag on the Chinese cabs just because they're Chinese, but LOUD greatly improved the cabs IMHO by using plywood instead of OSB, and using better sounding speakers. SLM had a problem with muddy speakers from 2000-06 due to a change in Eminence cone suppliers.

Jimmy’s right....

I have both the SLM and Loud era 610hlf cabs. The Loud (Chinese) definitely is more mid driven and less “mud”; that said their both great cabs.

What do you mean? The 410 is 10 inches smaller than the 610, it has to be easier to move around

I agree...both my 810 and 610s are far easier to move then when I had smaller 410, 212, 115...ex. 810 and 610 just tilt back and roll, easy to slide into a car. Smaller cabs your lifting and carrying. I’ve messed up my back more times wile using smaller cabs (carying) then my larger cabs.

The one caveat to the bigger cabs being easier to move around is if you have to do a lot of deadlifting. Otherwise I agree with the others. Still, I don't find them that much harder to get around with.

Or, instead of trading, sell the 610, and buy a made-in-USA (if that's a concern) Ampeg Heritage 410hlf; it apparently weighs a bit less than the standard (MIC) version.
Sounds better too, but those 410hlf cabs have a huge low end that some people love and some people don't. I'd say if he's used to the low end of 610hlf, go with the 410 he. But then again I could be wrong about that. He might try the 410hlf and love it. But for an extra hundy, the Heritage would be a no-brainer for me. But then again, the guy he's thinking about swapping with doesn't have one... LOL

I have to reiterate Jimmy's point about the 410 hlf cabs being so low end-centric. I finally got rid of mine because of that very reason. Along with all that low end was major lack of mids, but mine was also built back in '11 or '12, so the '17 made-in-China model may be a lot more balanced.

I will +1 all the folks saying the 610 is actually easier to move then the 410. Even if both cabs have caster its still easier for me to move around my 610. Its taller which means I don't have to bend over to push it around and I can tip it over and slide it into my car rather then dead lift the 410.

If you make the switch do it for the improvement in sound because you might not find a improvement in moving the 410 vs the 610

Well, in the end I didn't make the switch with the guy. He didn't even try it out. The day after he took it home he called me asking me if he could bring it back. It didn't have enough bass for his taste....

Lucky me because I realized the 610 is better than the 410 for my taste. Loved it when I did rehearsal the other night. Getting ready for the gig on Sunday. I'm gonna be a happy bass player Sunday night. Love my 610, the only "problem" is that it's a little too big to fit easily in the car. I'll change car at this point...

People used to that 410hlf low end whomp do have a problem with not having it in other cabs. And those of us used to low end response like the 810e and 610hlf have a problem with having that whomp. I guess that's why they make both :D
