Needing headphones that can be plugged into my amp so I can quiet practice. Bought a pair that could not handle the bass. It was all distortion even with the volume set on very low.

Your amp does have a headphone jack, correct? Don't try to plug headphones into the speaker outs!

After you solve the headphone out mystery on your amp, I would recommend the Grado SR80e. Just bought a pair, very comfortable and great bass response. Clean and full tone. I would think the SR60e would also do a great job. And they’re made right in Brooklyn, NY.
Edit: The only negative is the short cable at 6’. I bought their 15’ extension.

For overall balance AKG 242 (kind of your studio standard) or for more bass and bombast Beyer Dynamics DT770 80 ohms pro. These are not as balanced (flat) but they're super comfortable to wear, fully enclosed and they're champs when it comes to translating bass and drums. It's an oldie and a classic. And stay away from Beats!
