My old illegal 700 mhz Shure wireless has crapped out, and I need a replacement.

I need to keep it at $300 or less.

I would prefer to avoid 2.4 ghz for sure and 5 ghz if possible.

I would also prefer to avoid the "bug" type, I want a body pack with a short cable.

I've looked into the Shure BLX14, but it looks as if it cuts off at 50hz. I play basses ranging from 4 - 7 strings, (and a triple course 12) some active, some passive.

What else is there worth considering under $300?

I'm looking for replacement as well, only because my Line 6 G50 has severely limited range due to use of LAN for live mixer. It's just what it does to the 2.4 and 5.8GHz units.
My local dealer is waiting for a reply from Sure, as they have many versions of the 1/2 rack unit, and we're looking at the $300 variety. The reason for tapping Sure for recommendation, is because my rep says they'll know what frequency range to recommend that works best in my region.

Now you have me concerned, as the BLX is the series in consideration. Did not know the limited frequency range, but remember, it is all relative to the scale that specification is derived from. Is that 3Db down? A slight reduction at 30Hz (rough equivalent of your "B" string) is not necessarily fatal, but again, you've got me thinking....

You don't need to wait on Shure to get the right frequency range.. check the links in my sig..

That said. I use the Senn EW-100-G4 A1 (470-516Mhz) - works fine - but might be outside the OP's budget.

I used to use a body pack style, but when i saw the Lekato WS-50 5.8Ghz pods, I went for it. So much more convenient with USB charging and cost so much less.

I've had an AKG WMS420 Instrumental (UHF) for a couple years and it's been great. You can find plenty used/open box for well under that budget.

The receiver is a "set top" style (roughly 6x8), and the single AA battery in the transmitter is supposed to last up to 20 hours. No issues with my active electronics either.

Whatever you get, I recommend you stay away from 2.4ghz. If you are gigging/playing in a metro area you WILL have issues. Even the 5ghz range is over-crowded.
I'm always surprised when I see such comments when Billy Sheehan said he's using a Line 6 G55 for many years without a single dropout.
I assumed there's hundreds/thousands of 2.4Ghz cell phones showing at it gigs. Why he doesn't have any dropout then? Just curious.

I don't know why Sheehan doesn't have issues, but my comment was based on my own experience, and the experience of every guitarist that I have played with that cheaped out on a 2.4ghz unit. My unit was a GLDX........not exactly "cheap".

Maybe Sheehan is a Line 6 endorser who just says he uses the product.

I have seen many comments up here on Talkbass that coincide with my experience.......so it's not just me. Since switching to a 500mhz Sennheiser I haven't had one dropout.

I'm glad your experience has been different.

Sorry, I'm not Billy Sheehan hiding under that account

I have the pedal version of the Sure GLDX 16+ on my pedal board. Great, No problems, easy to set up. Lot's of bandwidth options, chooses automatically. You know exactly how much battery life is left etc. Full charge lasts way longer than the 4 hour shows we play. Yeah, a little more expensive but the pain went away when I started using it.

Line 6 G30 has served me well for about 6 years. It doesn’t require a proprietary cable between the bass and the transmitter. A standard 1/4” instrument cable is all you need.
