Stepping into the 21st century. I bought the head from the TB classifieds a week or so ago. The cabinet came UPS to my work place today. I'm obviously late to the Tone Hammer game, but I'm really happy to be replacing two Fender Rumbles. I'm also noticing that this amplifier is clear enough to bring all of my poor technique front and center. I'm opening for the Avett Bros. father tonight. What fun!

Many thanks to the TB member for the amp. I thought I got a really good deal. Greatly appreciated.

Congrats - a GREAT setup!
You probably already have the TH dialed in for your tone but it took me some time to get used to the interaction of the controls.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Gain control is not your typical gain control. It actually controls the amount of effect that the Drive and Midrange controls have.
Good luck on the gig.

I'll have to do some more fiddling with that. Thanks for the info!

Nice rig, I've used a TH with several Bergantino and Barefaced cabs for the past three years and it has always sounded good with any of them. Great amp.

Actually the secret to the TH is the Drive control. It is not a typical Over Dive (although it does have some gain). Rather it is a variable High Pass Filter and Low Pass Filter in one (and yes it does interact with the Gain control). There are some good graphs in the mega-thread that explain what the Drive is doing. These explain it better than the manual that just says:

The Drive control changes the gain structure and EQ interactively with the GAIN control position. By modifying the circuit structure, Drive gives a "vintage voiced" EQ and gain structure that adapts to how you set the GAIN control. The lower the GAIN control setting, the "flatter" the EQ applied. The higher you set the GAIN control, the more saturated the gain structure becomes, and the more the bass is tightened and the treble smoothed.

The Drive circuitry surrounds the midrange controls, enabling you to get a huge variety of tonal characteristics by simply adjusting the GAIN, MID LEVEL and MID FREQ controls.

The other unusual feature of the amp is that the Bass is set very low at 40hz.

I started reading through that thread. I should probably start from the end and work backwards. Thank you very kindly.

This has been the most valuable advice! My P bass sounded awful, until I rolled back the gain. I can't thank you enough!!!!

Great to hear!
I typically run my Gain at 8:00, Drive at 9:00, mid level and freq both at 2:00. I will say though that I twirl the controls for something a little different from time to time and wind up liking those settings too.
