So I have searched the internet and here to try and get answers to some questions I have before I make a decision.
I really like this bass, I know it's not the best of the best, but it plays nicely and look sweet. I like the jazz pups style, wide range of sounds and they are in just the right place on the guitar! I have some issue with the stock pups being a little noisy and a little too bright.
The EMG pups have caught my eye as I have heard good things and better yet (for me) are solderless. I have tried to fit guitar pups before and...well it didn't go well. Has anyone fit solderless pups before? are the wires likely to each into the control cavity in a bass which is not a jazz or a copy? I don't want to take the plunge only to have to solder them in anyway.
Having searched vendors who can ship to me I can find a J set, JX set and a JVX set. Which of these is likely to generate a darker tone, something which can be used to hold down the low end in a metal band (such as the ones where you can hear the bass) but can do other stuff, I want to learn as many styles and sounds as I can.
