How’s it going folks, happy to be here.
As the title says I’m completely new to this bass stuff, I’ve played guitar for about 12 years and after an extended break from music I’m getting back into the swing of things and recording by myself, so I figured I’d get myself a bass since it’s something I’ve always wanted to learn but just never really did much with that want, hence why I’m here. Hopefully I’ll have some kind of bass by the weekend so expect a bunch of dumb noob questions, besides that, thanks for having me!

The book Bass Guitar for Dummies is an excellent get started book. Starts off with how to hold it, how to tune it, how to get sound from it and then how to mute some of the sound. Yes our monster does rumble so muting comes into the picture.

The getting started sticky in the General Instruction section will be time well spent. How to get started?

Instead of strumming you will now be playing the notes of the chord one note at a time, to the beat of the song. Yes you will be the beat master. Your internal clock from 6 string guitar is good but not up to bass beat master standards. Running your scales to a metronome is in your future.

Welcome, and ask questions, everyone will help.

Much like you I played guitar for decades. Never really saw any action, mostly just jamming. About 3 years ago I made the switch to bass. Action was swift and immediate, in a band almost instantly. Still took me about a year before I was really feeling the shift to bass player. Having fun, wished I made the switch way earlier.
