New Pedalboard to built (HX Stomp -> PreAmp/DI oder not?)

Hello guys and greetings from Germany.
First of all, sorry for my english.

Im looking forward to built myself a new Pedalboard around the HX Stomp as my centerpiece of sounds.
But there are a few problems for me to solve first. I hope you can help me.

Signalpath on my actual PedalBoard:
SHURE GLXD -> EBS MultiComp -> DROP-Pedal -> BassClone (Chorus) -> Sansamp Programmable BassDriver -> XLR to FOH

Lets get to the questions:
1. Do you recommend a PreAmp/DI after the HX Stomp? Something like an MXR BassPreAmp?
2. If i do so, do i have to turn the PreAmp-Block in the HX STOMP OFF? (cause i purchased the IAM SignaturePack from Ian Martin Allison and there are NobileDI-Captures in it i guess?)
3. If i really want to use the HX Stomp live. Are there any "Global"-Settings i REALLY HAVE TO setup first before i kick the stage?
4. I saw a Video that somebody recommended to turn the Volumeknob (top right corner - device/master volume) OFF in livesituations? Where is the volumen than come from?

The new Pedalboard (in my mind) should like like this:
Shure GLX -> EBS MultiComp -> DROP Pedal -> HX Stomp -> MXR BassPreAmp

Thank you for your help.

Chris

1) Shouldn't be a problem to do HX Stomp -> Preamp/DI. The inverse may cause some issues with signal being hotter than the HX expects, but all of this stuff can be mediated with a few twists of the volume or gain knobs ;)

2) Entirely up to you, I used to run a Fender Bassman amp sim from my Zoom B3n into the front end of my GK 700RB-II and liked the outcome. If you wanted something more "true" to the goal of that amp sim, you'd want to bypass any other signal processing like an EQ or preamp stage of a bass amp or preamp pedal.

No hard and fast rules on whether it's right or not, but be mindful of volume and gain levels, sometimes you can get feedback or other unpleasant noise if not set up correctly.

I can't be of help on questions 3 and 4, but I'm sure someone will chime in who can. Lotta HX owners on here and many like the results of using them with bass :bassist:

It's a good idea to have a DI handy. I'm always taking a Tech 21 QStrip as an "emergency backup" with me because with its surgically precise parametric EQ I can still dial whichever usable sound I need, even without an amp or anything else.

However, usually I just use a self-soldered TRS-to-XLR patch cable adapter to go directly from the Stomp output to FOH. The output jacks are symmetrical so usually it's a no-brainer. Just make sure the sound guy doesn't enable any phantom power on the bass channel.

That said, I'd strongly advise against using a solid TRS-to-XLR adapter. If someone accidentally steps on that, the chances are that it would break the Stomp output jack. So make sure it's a cable.
2. If i do so, do i have to turn the PreAmp-Block in the HX STOMP OFF?
Well, you don't "have to" do anything within the signal path on the Stomp, as long as you like what you hear. Everything is allowed in there. ;)
3. If i really want to use the HX Stomp live. Are there any "Global"-Settings i REALLY HAVE TO setup first before i kick the stage?
I'm always setting Ins/Outs > Output Level > Inst if I go directly to FOH via my XLR adapter. For some consoles the Line output level may be too hot.
4. I saw a Video that somebody recommended to turn the Volumeknob (top right corner - device/master volume) OFF in livesituations? Where is the volumen than come from?
Yes, when on stage I'm turning it off, i.e. Ins/Outs > Volume Controls > Phones
For rehearsals etc. I'm keeping it at "Main+HP".
But on some presets that don't require the use of all three footswitches, I also set one of the footswitches as a "kill all" switch, e.g. by toggling the Main L/R block Volume parameter.

Apart from the Stomp, I'm not using any other effects. Only sometimes I'd add an external footswitch – either the passive Ampero Switch or DMC.micro MIDI – or an old customized Roland EV-5 expression pedal.

Gruss aus Basel :)

I am running the HXS into a MXR M81. I am using the Mandarin (Orange) amp sim in the HXS as my Amp flavour. The beauty of the M81 is the transparency. It doesn't fight with the amp character, I can EQ for stage sound knowing the amp sim tone is going to FOH.

What are you using the drop for? If it is to drop to Eb I think it is wasted on this board. The HXS has a very good pitch shift. I have patches set up for 1/2 step up and down in the HXS. I personally run a LS-2 so I can adjust levels on the fly if needed, or take the HXS out of the signal chain due to an issue or to change patches if needed.
