This just arrived by my door today! The new TX600 and two Hartke Hydrive 112 Cabs. Running them at 8ohm each.

The Hartke cabs are great! The switchable impedance is a great feature.

First impressions: The TX is super clean, and has a lot of nice snap to it. It weighs nothing! One thing I did notice is, that it is very quiet. Using my Sadowsky and if had the Gain and Master at 12, it is at a quiet bedroom level. It seems to have a big spike in volume after 3'oclock. Should the gain be turned up as loud as it can go without any signs of distortion or clipping? This was to me, the minimum gig volume needed. Is it safe to drive and amp this hard for a whole gig? No very noticeable signs of distortion at these settings also. Here are my settings:

Any ideas people?

I am very foreign to the TX600, but my Kilo is also very quiet until I reach 1 o'clock on the volume knob.... Then it gets REALLY loud from there. That is, when I'm in Stereo Mode. Rig looks good, good luck!

FWIW- My PF800 isn't all that loud at 11-12:00 (it's not bedroom level either) but after 12:00 it really takes off. That is where it really starts to shine IMO.

Thanks for the replies guys! Question - do you use your TX600 and PF800 on these settings for gigs (cranking past 12 o'clock) and have you noticed any unwanted distortion/clipping beyond this point?

The bands I play with aren't "loud" bands (thank god) so I am mostly in the 11-1 o'clock zone at 90% of my bar gigs.

When outdoors or in a bigger place I add my second 4.5XL cab and am usually between 12 and 2. I never have to crank it much more than that.

I have had no problems with unwanted distortion at all.

Hey, I was wondering whether you have found out more about this. I got my TX600 today and found pretty much the same thing that you have. In order to get a somewhat loud output from this amp, I have to push the gain to max and the master to past 3 o' clock. It's still not louder than the HA5500 in my practice room is at 9 o'clock on the master. I also haven't been able to drive the input into anything close to clipping, even at max on the passive input (which might not mean anything...)

Now granted, I have only had it hooked up to a Fender Rumble 115 v3 at home so far. Will hopefully be able to hook it up to a Hartke Hydrive 410 tomorrow to see if that brings out the power. For now, I am a little underwhelmed... :cautious:

i'd do the opposite; dime the master entirely (essentially removing it from the equation) and just bring the pre gain up until you're loud enough.

This is a direct quote for Larry Hartke who very helpfully sent this to me, regarding setting levels for the TX600:

"Yes set the gain as high as you can without the lightsaround the knob flashing red (that indicates an overload on the preamp). Then use the master. The master volume taper is not linear so it will get loud slowly and then increase in volume quicker the farther you turn it up. It will start hitting hard around 1:00 or 2:00 O'clock that's normal for that type of control."

OK, great. Thank you very much! It's awesome that Larry Hartke is so responsive. At least we know it's not a fault of the amp then. It still seems a bit quieter than expected to me but that might be partly psychological. Feels weird to basically dime a 600W amp.
