New Tech21 Power Engine

Tech 21 - Power Engine Deuce Deluxe
Might be a good solution for those using a preamp pedal or modeler.
Or for those like me who play guitar and bass. Might be a perfect match for my Avid Eleven Rack. XLR out to my EV ZXA1 sub.
Nice looking. Might sell my EV ZXL12P for this.
I saw that too! :)
I had a Bass Power Engine eons ago and never should have sold it. Looks like they beefed up the power and still kept the weight down.:) My Power Engine was only 60 watts if I remember correctly?
Best wishes,
Brent

Any idea as to how FRFR it really is? Dispersion?

I suspect that it is "just" another MI speaker system with a big woofer and small tweeter, high Xover freq, poor dispersion and pronounced midrange peak. But I may be entirely wrong.

Unboxed and played at low volume for a couple of minutes to make sure it worked before I had to leave. I have band practice tomorrow so I'll have some more insight afterwards. I bought it to pull double duty on bass and guitar. I have reasonable expectations with the bass and I am not expecting it to handle a full band gig on its own.

I am waiting to hear more with baited breath!

I tried out the Deuce Deluxe at practice tonight. My setup is a Mesa D800 plus, a RevSound 115T, and the Power engine. I am running the PE out of the Mesa DI (post eq) and the Rev out of the regular speaker out. This bi-amp (sort of) setup allows the Rev to do most of the heavy lifting down low and the PE to give me some mids and nice paper cone tweeter highs. In this application I was quite pleased and I'll be gigging with this setup. I have never owned a single 12 cabinet or combo so I won't be able to compare to others, but when I tried the PE out by itself I was quickly aware that it couldn't hang with OUR 5 pc band at practice volumes, YMMV. Obviously it is limited in how low it can go and I was able to max it out pretty easily, even with the onboard hpf engaged. Actually, I don't think I ever disengaged it. I'll try some lower volume practice stuff with the hpf disengaged to see if I can get some warmer tones. Fortunately I didn't buy it to use by itself with bass. In the coming weeks I'll keep playing with it and experimenting with eq and other routing options. Also I'm sure the driver needs to break in. All in all I'm pleased so far based on my needs and I'm hoping it does a nice job with guitar and my Helix too. To my knowledge no one else is making a powered cab with these features, in this form factor and price range, that can be used for bass and guitar. That's why I bought it and if it holds up it will get lots of use and I will be very pleased. Let me also take the opportunity to mention that my RevSound 115T ain't no joke.:bassist:

Interesting! what kind of music is your 5 piece?

Looking on the PE for the exact same thing (Avid Eleven Rack) but I think it should do well with my Ampeg SCR-DI for practice and low level jam. Report back how it got with guitar modelers please.

These cabs have become incredibly hard to find. I was lucky enough to get a used one in perfect condition just yesterday. Without wanting to sound over-zealous about it, I must say I'm just blown away by the accuracy and power of the sound. It just makes all my guitars and pedals sound the way they should (with a Two Notes Cab M providing cab simulation), and it certainly seems loud enough to rehearse with and use as a stage monitor. Tech 21 really nailed it with this product for bass and guitar (and upright bass, and piano...). I'm surprised there are not more FRFR tools like this.
