New Vol/Tone Knob Holes Too Shallow

I think this is a noob question, but here goes.

Got some pretty new control knobs from Q-Parts, and when I went to install them, I found that they are not as tall as the originals, and the hole in them is not as deep. So now they sit well above the body of the bass, and I think they look bad because of it.

Two confounding issues:
The knobs have abalone inlays, so I'm scared of re-drilling the holes too deep.
The pots don't seem to have much more thread to go deeper into the body.

Has anyone else run into this problem, and what did you do?

I think you have a pretty good handle on the situation. Preamp pots are not universal, especially when you get into stacked pots. I have tried many different ways to customize knobs to fit (grinding pot shafts, drilling out holes, cannibalizing multiple sets of knobs for a single set) but if the knobs are too short, this is what works best:

Measure the stock knobs and order new knobs of the same size. It will be cheaper and look better in the long run.

Aww, but I wanted a miracle cure! :roflmao:

After playing the bass today, I realized the bridge volume knob does nothing and has no stop point at all. So probably need new pot. And if that's the case, I can also check for pots that have shorter shaft extensions.

Yes, I use my Dad's old dial caliper for quite a bit of bass work.
