Newbie on a budget

Picked up Fender Jazz Bass to earn some extra cash (guitar player). I'm clueless about bass amps.

I have $400 to invest in a used rig. I play the blues, jazz and funk in rooms avg 100 or less.

What would you do?

GK210 or GK212 or Fender Rumble 500 V3.
That's what I'd look for used for $400.

My recommendation is to determine what tone you are after (vintage, hi-fi, a bit of break up, hi gain etc.). Then find a used amp with a good reliability reputation. Then buy used. It will take a bit of homework but you will save a bunch of money. Talkbass is a great source of knowledge.

A 1x15, or 2x10 Combo minimum, 100 watts or over, preferably 200 watts or over at 4 Ohms. Something with a DI is nice, so you can plug into a PA. My favs are the old Peaveys, but do a little homework and with a little shopping you should be able to get something for that money that will work fine. I have an old Fender 1x15 combo that is a real trooper and sounds good enough, but there are quite a few options that would work well within those specs.

The Rumbles and GK stuff are fine as well as others.

If you have gobs of money, buy a combo.

If you're still playing in a year, you'll know what you really need by then, and you'll be buying a head and a couple of proper cabs.

I'd look for a V3 Rumble combo myself.
