Hi folks,
I was just lurking around websites, looking for custom truss rod covers, and I stumbled upon this:

NOTE: I am not shipping to Italy any longer, sorry folks, but there are just too many problems with your postal service.

I am very disappointed.

But because he's damn right. Our postal "service" is feared by so many sellers, we usually pay higher for deliveries because sending things here is literally a risk.

Does that happen somewhere else? As of now, I only noticed this problem with Italy. Are we alone? Or someone else wants to take our dirty place?

(If this thread is in the wrong place forgive me and move it where needed)

As a construction type person, I always tell clients that if they want anything Italian in the project, they should add on at least a month for construction time. Inevitably, the container falls off the ship somewhere, then Italy is on vacation, then there's a backlog, then there's some other shipping delay... Moral of the story: If you really like those Italian light fixtures and want them, make sure they are in a warehouse in the US somewhere before you fall in love with them. Otherwise, assume you are going to live with some el-cheapo substitute for up to a year.

Italian design is stunning. Italian logistics are stunningly awful.

I've bought a number of metal enclosures from an Italian vendor. Shipping was always a pretty big "adventure" until he finally started using FedEx. From my end it's now just like buying from someone on the US east coast, pretty much. The rates are so-so, but not all that much more than doing it by mail used to be.

I've had a number of bad experiences right here in the USA with "FedEx SmartPost" - not to be confused with regular FedEx or FedEx Ground, which I've had very few problems with. This is a service that they bought (SmartPost) which "ships to your town and drops off at the local post office for delivery" - unless they "lose" or open and pilfer from your package along the way, which has happened too many times for it to feel coincidental or random. FedEx seems to have left the corrupt culture intact when they bought it, which can't be helping their overall brand image.

When I was living in China in 2001 my family sent me a care package which included some clothes, misc, a jar of salsa and a bag of tortilla chips (which were impossible to find in my city). Apparently the chinese postal service opened the box for inspection and took everything out. When they packed everything up I guess they didn't pack it efficiently and found themselves with a puffy bag of tortilla chips that would not fit into the box. So in a fit of brilliant inspiration they opened up the chips, crushed them and then poured them all around in the empty areas of the box, flattened the bag and put it neatly on top and resealed the box. :(

I've visited Italy twice. I love it and hope to return again one day. While I was there, more than a few people told me to use the Vatican post office if possible because it is much more efficient and reliable. Maybe it's time for a little "divine intervention" and have your orders shipped there. :D

Try shipping something by Priority Mail International from the US to India. The item will hit India within a week. Then all tracking stops. Silence. If you're very VERY lucky, the item suddenly shows as Delivered about 6-8 weeks later. Or it just drops off the earth.

No surprises there. Though it was a long time back, I once had a (domestic) courier package opened up and items stolen from it. Just as a cautionary bit of info, may I know what items you've lost this way and where they were headed to in India?
