Happy new year fellow bass players!
Over the last two weeks I treated myself with an Darkglass Alpha Omicron and a EBS Multicomp. Have the Multicomp for two weeks now and the AOmi for a few days. I'm so glad I got the Multicomp first and got used to it before getting the AOmi because the AOmi imho sounds so much better with the Multicomp before.
I play a Yamaha BB424X and BB425X so two aggressive high output passive basses.
I know the sound of both very well and love it. But the Multicomp makes those basses so much more punchy. For an aggressive playing style I like the MB setting with the compression at 1 o'clock. For a rounder and warmer fingerstyle sound I love the Tubesim with compression at 10 o'clock. Such a great pedal which leaves the natural character of my basses and enhances their sound even more.
Now to the AOmi. At first I wasn't impressed. It sounded muddy and fuzzy even in Alpha mode and low gain, growl and bite deactivated. I was about to send it back. Then I got curious to hear what happens when I turn on the Multicomp in front of the AOmi. And there it was: the harmonically rich, ultra aggressive and punchy sound I heard in all the YT videos which I was looking for. My Yammies have become a weapon with this. I'm not sure why it's the combination of the Multicomp and the AOmi but I assume the signal of my Yammies is so hot that it pushes the input of the AOmi too hard. The Multicomp evens that out. Now I absolutely love the AOmi and can't imagine my sound without it. The next great thing is its versatility. It's more versatile than a lot of YT videos show. With the gain low I can get a SansAmp Bass Driver Sound with just a little grit. I see the mod knob as a mid control. If I want more mids I dial in more of the Omega side. That works great for me.
Sorry for not having any pics. Will post them when my pedalboard arrives and I patch them up.
I try to also make some sound examples of my setup.
Best regards,
Ben
